Gill Yusaf

Gill graduated from Addenbrookes in 1982 and has worked for 35 years specialising in musculoskeletal medicine. She has a particular interest in upper and lower limb injuries and conditions.

Apart from a year when she worked in New Zealand she has worked mainly in East Suffolk, both in the NHS and Privately. She has done extensive post graduate courses including a Diploma in Orthopaedic Medicine and a post-graduate MSc in Advanced Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy.

In 1997 Gill established Stowmarket Physio Practice which became Woolpit and Stowmarket Physio Practice in 2008 when she returned to an extended physiotherapy role, working with the orthopaedic consultants at Ipswich hospital. This role involved independent clinics, assessing, diagnosing and managing complex peripheral musculoskeletal conditions referred in by both physios and GPs.

Together with the East Suffolk CCG and Orthopaedic Consultants, Gill played a role in the development of the current pathways of care for the management of all peripheral conditions for the physios and GP’s in East Suffolk. She also helped to develop the current model of patient care from Primary to Secondary care for musculoskeletal patients.

As part of the orthopaedic department she became involved in various national research projects, the most notable being recruiting patients for the CSAW project to determine whether a commonly used surgical procedure, used to treat patients with shoulder pain (impingement), arthroscopic subacromial decompression, is an effective treatment.

Gill enjoys teaching and has a part time role with Essex University teaching on the post graduate masters musculoskeletal injection course.

By returning to Stowmarket she has come full circle and is looking forward to, once again, treating patients in the Stowmarket area on a part time basis.
